I met Wallace Mills at a previous job when he was trying out for a footwear production manager position. He was working in sales at the time but wanted to be more involved in the product aspect of the biz. Besides being a cool person the one thing that stood out was that he had a MFA in painting. We talked a lot about art and the sacrifices needed to be a successful artist (feast or famine). Wallace was offered the job and became a key player in our little crew. One day he had invited a bunch of work folks over to his house for a BBQ. We were hanging in his backyard and I noticed this small red work shed. I asked what was in there and Wallace told me it was his studio. He gave Amy and I a tour of the space and showed some current paintings he was working on. The piece above was one of those paintings. I asked him if he’d be into an art trade and he was down to swap works. Wallace’s paintings (from this period) dealt with grid systems, color and their relationship with each other. The pieces from this series contain layers upon layers. Wallace is a super talented artist that is humble. Hopefully he’ll get a website together at some point to show off a bunch of his works.
