Aston Martin at Goodwood with Hackett

Went to Goodwood this week for a bit of gentlemanly behavior.
First drove around this ancient circuit in a V8 Vantage Convertible.

Then got driven at a much faster pace around the same track by Karl Wendlinger in a DBRS9:

Met Jeremy Hackett and discussed urban bike polo at length:

Checked his rather nice helmet:

And had a closer look at their Le Mans-winning car, the DBR9s (not the same as the DBRS9 just to confuse you):

A few months ago Justice released a highly controversial music video by Romain Gavras:

I personally haven’t yet understood why or how they decided to do this, and if there was a deeper/hidden meaning behind this. It certainly got me stressed enough though.

In a single afternoon in Paris I crossed paths twice with Artus De Lavilléon, aristocratic vagabond extraordinaire, skateboard photographer since the 80s, prolific artist, and new convert to the unavoidable fixed gear mania (welcome to MASH on arkitip!).

Ascète watch / EEM

In Paris last week I had a meeting with Emmanuel from the design studio The EEM at his agency. He had a watch I’d never seen before. Designed by The EEM in collaboration with Pierre Gonalons for Ascète, it struck me as really unique and sleek. I’m no watch maniac and I’m sure purists would scoff at the basic mechanism, but I loved it.

Passed by Jody Hudson-Powell’s studio today, to discuss a project we’re working on together. Him and his brother run a design/creative company which constantly puts out good stuff.
Loving the purple espadrilles and the stickered-up Watanabe frame. The Arrospok is more controversial…

Viktor & Rolf exhibition at the Barbican

I went to the opening last night of the Viktor & Rolf show at the Barbican. Mind-boggling clothes in one of my favorite buildings in London, and a great doll house as a centerpiece (only managed to take one picture - when security wasn’t looking). The dolls were creepy though.
A must-see if you have any interest in fashion, or if you think fashion designers are lazy primadonnas.

Saul Steinberg retrospective in Paris

I have always loved Saul Steinberg’s work. My dad collected his books when I was a kid, and I spent hours literally immersed in his drawings of American life.

Lazy + Lame Marketing

After the backlash that hit DKNY when they decided to re-utilize the principle of Ghost Bikes for a guerilla marketing campaign, you would think that we’d seen the end of this subject…
But whilst in Paris last week I spotted dozens of pink-painted bikes chained to railings all over the city, with Fornarina logos on them. The bikes were all the same model, pretty much new and of rather good quality. The Italian fashion label decided to literally copy the copy.

Perfect material for one of my favorite websites: Joe La Pompe!
