MIA Market is a new food/store project by the Italian collective Arabeschi di Latte for MIA, a Rome based design store. The idea is to provide customers with “local and seasonal food sustainably produced, design objects and instruments with a particular focus towards recycling” to give the impression “as if a group of friends has assembled in a kitchen and accidentally left the door open…” So next time you are in Rome, make sure you stop by Via Panisperna 225.

Last night I was invited to the projection of UnderSkatement in Milan, brought in town by two local girls, Diana Manfredi e Alessia Pelistri; but have to be honest that the location proved to be far more interesting than most of the short movies showcased. The ex Cinema Istria, built in the 40s’ by Ing. Mario Cavallé, was a two level cinema with 1.100 seats.

After being used as a car dealer for years, it was acquired by Comvert, the company behind Italian snowboard and skateboard brand Bastard, and with the skills of Studio Metrico, a young emerging architect studio from Milan, it was completely redone to accommodate offices, services, a storage space and an indoor 144 sqm skate bowl.

The only detail being that the bowl was installed above the storage structure.

Cabaret Voltaire Boutique

As the press release reads “Cabaret Voltaire is one of Switzerland’s most vibrant contemporary art spaces, programming shows and events in the old town of Zurich… For the month of December, Boutique Cabaret Voltaire will present some of the most exciting products from small creative industries across Switzerland and Europe.”

I might be a bit late in pointing it out, but tomorrow you can spend a nice evening at the Swiss Institute in New York, from 5 till 7 pm, browsing magazines, artists’ editions, jewelry, clothes, housewares and drinking traditional glühwein. Don’t forget to enter the Cabaret Voltaire raffle to win a special Swiss surprise! The Boutique runs till December 24.

Juan is one of those guys that never stop surprising me… he recently launched a new editorial project called MOLDE, an online magazine with interesting interview, texts, podcasts, and much more… only thing it’s in Spanish, but well if you can’t read it, you could still download the podcasts, like this one from Nacho, and enjoy the wonderful image selection.

La Triennale in Milan just began a series of video showcases called VideoAgorÃ , curated by Silvana Annichiarico, the director of La Triennale Design Museum, showcasing rare film, images and documentaries around the world of design. A great review of previously unseen Achille Castiglioni lectures is on right now, with a projection every Thursday evening at 7pm for the whole of November.

Apartamento + NYC

Been in NY for a few days working at the Printed Matter book fair, which, if you are even slightly interested in art books, you should not miss as it has become the major appointment worldwide for independent art publishers.. Nieves Books is there with the latest publications and some ultra rare ones, as well as Arkitip with Steve representing at the booth!

Fair aside, we are preparing for the launch of Apartamento magazine issue 2, which will be taking place at Matter, 405 Broome Street, on Wednesday 29 October from 6 till 8 pm. You are all welcome to come down to get a copy of the new magazine and drink a Peroni with us.
