Emile Norman: By His Own Design

Emile Norman

“Emile Norman: By His Own Design is a portrait of the self-taught California artist, Emile Norman, who at age 90 is still working with the same passion for life, art, nature and freedom that inspired him through seven decades of a changing art scene and turbulent times for a gay man in America.”

I get cozy with GM in the latest AFQ

By the way did you notice Geoff put up a new site? Here’s what he said about it: “…for the first time I have a site that catalogs some of my studio champion graphics’ work and also my artwork” .

Life after the crash

acrudeawakening.jpg

“What is happening now is not demand destruction, it is a financial disaster. The U.S. consumes 21 million barrels of per day. At $135 per barrel, the U.S. spends $1.0 trillion per year on oil, which is equal to 15% of the $6.8 trillion in take-home pay of everyone who pays taxes. If oil prices rose to $200 per barrel, the U.S. would spend $1.5 trillion per year on oil, which would be equal to 22% of take-home pay.
Moreover, those percentages of 15% and 22% do not even include the cost of coal or natural gas. In other words, the U.S. will be broke long before oil prices hit $200 per barrel, and the rest of the world would be sure to follow.” Peak Oil

Good Vibes

Some times I work on projects I actually can stand behind other times I work on projects so I can pay the bills. This project that comes out next Spring is some thing I can stand behind. What is it you ask? Let’s just say..”one for one”

Flip - Mino

mino_flip.jpg

We just picked up the new Flip Mino to document all the smiles, first steps and cute little moments via video of our little lady. I was dreading, at first, getting a video camera. I just envisioned some big ass vhs style shoulder mount rig or some over-hyped-way-too-many-features handy cam. The Flip breaks all those stereotypes and is probably the best little video camera for capturing kids doing those first little cute things and great for all those Terry Richardson style parties you might be throwing (talk about a juxtaposition). They make the camera so simple to use. There’s a total of 7 buttons that have 1-2 functions and is super intuitive. The camera has a rechargeable battery and includes software to make your videos easy to upload to Youtube and most social-network sites. The Mino retails for $170 and has 2 GB of flash memory and can hold up to 60 minutes of video.

Outdoor Life

Outdoor Life has a great cover archive. I linked this a while ago but they redid their site so here’s the new link. The site is a bit jumbled but works. Be careful you’ll spend some serious time in this place.

How and Why

Before my site decided to throw up on itself due to an invasion of penis pill ads I posted a link to Rocket Roberts “How and Why” cover archive. Get inspired.
